The Store

After 18 years of experience selling classical music at various retail chains, Joel Greenspan decided to leave the chain and be his own boss, opening Joel's Classical Shop in May of 2002. At a time when digital downloads were already prevalent, Joel found a niche and struck a blow for classical collectors, running a successful operation for eight years and counting. If you miss the days when you could walk into a record shop and discuss music with friendly and knowledgeable staff, don't despair yet! With your help and patronage, Joel's Classical Shop will be around for years to come, an oasis of musical celebration. We know our stuff because we're passionate about it ourselves!

Though the store is primarily devoted to classical music, we also carry a selection of film scores, musicals, world music, jazz, and old time popular favorites. If you like other genres, that's fine too! We're happy to special order any currently available recordings and even have resources to find many out of print releases. Bring us your wish lists and we'll work our magic. In addition to our stock  of domestic releases, we stock many exclusive and hard to get imports -- even stuff you simply can't find online. We have also recently added a lot of fresh titles to our used section (which also includes hundreds of LPs for only $1 each!) So why not drop by Joel's Classical Shop and browse through our collection of over 10,000 titles, or contact us to see if we have a particular item in store.

Our Staff

Joel Greenspan

Beloved by his many longtime customers, Joel is practically a walking encyclopedia of classical recording knowledge, having been involved in the sale of classical music since 1985. Opening his own store in 2002, Joel has striven to provide classical music lovers with a wide selection of performances of standard classical favorites as well as repertoire which is less familiar. He knows something about everything.

Michael Sumbera

A musicologist by training, Michael has been collecting classical recordings for over thirty years. His areas of specialty focus on American music and music of the twentieth century, including publications on Bernstein and Bartók, but his knowledge stretches from Higdon to Beethoven to Ockeghem to the origination of chant (some are stronger than others).
